Kangaroo Hills Tin Project

The Kangaroo Hills Mineral Field contains several primary tin mineralisation styles including sheeted quartz-tourmaline lodes and veins, greisen veins/alteration zones and argillic alteration zones. All are associated with late Palaeozoic S-type and I-type granites. Ore bodies occur as sheet and pipe like bodies often located in major shears or as fissures. The area also contains numerous secondary alluvial tin deposits.

The Kangaroo Hills area has a significant history of tin mining. During the 1980’s, alluvial tin deposits were mined within the area of EPM 28443, but mining ceased in 1986 due to the low tin price.

The QLD Dept of Resources records indicate at least 100 known occurrences and workings in the application area. Past modern exploration has mainly concentrated on secondary alluvial deposits and we believe that the potential of this area has not been properly evaluated.

Iltani believes that the presence of extensive primary tin mineralisation is indicative of the potential of the proposed application area to host larger primary tin deposits, in particular bulk tonnage sheeted vein systems.

In 2007 and 2008, Meridian Minerals undertook a stream sediment, soil and rock sampling program mainly focused on the Bellview and Hidden Valley prospects. Highlights from the sampling programs have been highlighted in Table 1 and Table 2.

The sampling results indicate the presence of high-grade tin mineralisation and were never followed up These represent high priority targets.
